Hi, my name is Surya and I like listening to old music and experimenting in the kitchen. I also chi-chat a lot! My elder sister had informed me about menstruation and I am thankful to her for that. However, the girls in my school don’t know how to use pads or bra or how to maintain hygiene. In a male dominant country women or girls are asked to sit outside or in a corner during those 4/5 days. But, if you ask me, a girl is the most important part of any family. She has to be treated equally. |
Hi, I am Nanda and I like reading books, stories or anything from where I can gain more knowledge. When I started menstruating I had no clue what had happened to me and I began crying and had no idea whom to tell about it. When I finally told to my mother she asked me not to worry as it was natural and that it would happen every month. The moment I heard that, I cried even more! As a teacher and someone responsible for the education of these girls I feel it is very important for a girl to have knowledge about it as she is the one who will soon have her own family. I have faced problems and don’t want any other girl to face it and that is why I am supporting this project. |
Hello. I am Veenu. I have been a teacher for the past 5 years. I love listening to songs by Rafi Saab and his chulene do nazuk honton ko is my all time favourite. I belive that the most crucial thing about the issue with menstruation is giving the girls the awareness before they have their first periods. |
Hi! I am Hemant and I have been a teacher for the past 5 years. The one thing that you can be sure about me is that you will not see me talking much in a crowd. However, I am really interested in this initiative as I strongly believe that the girls have a right to know what is happening in their bodies. I don't want them to go through the same phase of fear and crying as I did. |
Hi, this is Narmada here. I have 21 years of teaching experience and i am also a thorough reader of the daily newspaper. Not just newspapers, I also love reading novels and I am currently reading Rabindranath Tagore's 'Ankh ki kiri-kiri' In my teaching experience I have always observed that boys are given the preference. Times have changed but this trend still remains. |
Hello, I am Neelam. Before working as a teacher, I used to work as a supervisor for Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS). Right from those times, I have been passionate to help the girl child be more aware about menstrual cycle. I have always been wanting to start this in classes and I think this opportunity is just right. |
Hi, my name is Ganga and this is my 5th year as a teacher. If you ask me, a woman can break free from the suppression of patriarchy if she can find a dignified means of livelihood. That does not mean that she has to be educated. Apart from being a teacher, I would consider myself to be a good counselor and a guide. I love dancing and cooking. One day, when I would have saved enough money, I would like to open an old age home. |
Hello, I am Bhawana. I have been a teacher for the past 15 years. Most of the times, you will see me dancing, laughing and singing with the children, in classrooms. My biggest concern is the drop-out among young girls. And as far as menstrual taboo is concerned, I believe that the main requirement is cleanliness. If you maintain the necessary cleanliness, almost all the myths and practices that are prevalent today become pointless. |
Hello, my name is Ritu and I have been teaching for the past 9 years. When I think of my days prior to my marriage, I see my self somewhat as an activist. I would have a strong opinion about many issues. However, post marriage, my perspectives have changed. However, my perspective about girls has remained the same. I have 2 sons but I have a better experience with the girls I teach, here. I love spending time with them. |
More coming soon...
